The following statement refers to one or more Symptoms and Experiences which many people have in their everyday lives relating to OCD.
Obsessions or compulsions that cause significant distress.............
- I think having contact with bodily secretion may contaminate me and my clothes.
- I wash my hands often or longer than necessary.
- I wash and clean obsessively.
- I avoid using public toilets for the reason that I am afraid of disease or contamination.
- I am extremely concerned about cleanliness.
- I find it difficult to touch rubbish or dirty things.
- I ask people to repeat things to me numerous times, even though I understand them the first time.
- Unpleasant thoughts come into my mind against my will and I cannot get rid of them.
- I have to review conservations and actions to make sure that I didn't do something wrong.
- I have saved up so many different things that they get in the way.
- I check things more often than required.
- I repeatedly check doors, windows.
- I collect thing I don't really need.
- I have terrible thoughts that I might want to harm myself or others.
- I get very upset if objects are not arranged correctly.
- I feel obliged to follow a particular order in dressing and undressing and myself.
- I feel compelled to count while I am doing things.
- I need certain things to be arranged in a particular order.
- I get behind in my work because I repeat things over and over again.
- I feel I have to repeat certain numbers.
- After doing something carefully, I still have the thought I have not finished it.
- I have to do things over and over again until it feels right.
- Before going to bed I have to do certain things in a certain way.
- I regularly get nasty thoughts and have hard in getting rid of them.
- I avoid throwing things away because I am afraid I might need them later.
- I get upset if other people change the way I have arranged my things.
- I feel that I must repeat certain words or phrases in my mind in order to wipe out bad thoughts, feelings or actions.
- After I have done things, I have constant doubts about whether I really did them.
- I feel that there are good and bad numbers.
How Do I know If I Have OCD?
There is no reliable diagnostic test for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). The diagnosis is generally based on a thorough face-to-face interview conducted by a fully experienced Mental Health Professional.
